Gurgaon,
situated in the NCR of Delhi,
is a fast developing metropolis
that is being referred as
next Singapore of India. Gurgaon
also known as 'Guru Gram'
or 'Guru Gaon' (village of
the spiritual teacher) was
named after Dronacharya, a
character in the Epic Mahabharata.
It is said that the Pandavas
and the Kauravas received
spiritual instructions from
Guru Dronacharaya at this
place.

Today, skyscrapers and new age
shopping malls covers the whole
city. It is India's original
outsourcing destination, housing
major multinationals such as
GE, Vertex, American Express,
Keane and Convergys. Other reputable
companies such as Coke, Pepsi,
GSK, HP, Gilette, General Motors,
Nestle have made Gurgaon their
corporate headquarters. It is
also the new home of thousands
of professionals, who have bought
apartments, bungalows in newly
constructed colonies and condominiums.Indira
Gandhi International Airport
is just ten minutes drive from
Gurgaon and Delhi is easily
accessible via two world-class
highways. The city of Gurgaon
has impressive infrastructure
facilities. Extensive road and
rail network, well-developed
industrial estates, good banking
facilities, reliable communication
network, modern technical institutes
and developed commercial markets.
Special emphasis has been laid
on planned development of infrastructure
and providing eco-friendly environment
conducive to healthy growth
of industry. Moreover the state
seems to be making a conscious
effort to be investor-friendly.
However what seems to be transforming
Gurgaon is really the network
effect. Presence of multinationals
attracts the youth from far
away places as they are almost
guaranteed of a well paying
job. This makes commercial activities
like movie theatres, restaurants,
nightclubs, and shopping malls
to open up and generate profits.
This attracts more people into
moving to Gurgaon as apart from
the job security they are also
guaranteed a good time. Now
add to this great schools and
ultra modern hospitals and it
becomes crystal clear as to
why Gurgaon has been named the
millennium city.

By
December, Delhi to Gurgaon in
20 mins flat
Traffic between the Capital
and Gurgaon , often crawling
along Delhi - Jaipur National
Highway 8, will soon switch
gears to the fast lane.
At least four flyovers are set
to come up on the almost 28-km
stretch" between Dhaula
Kuan and Haldiram's Resort"
and there's more good news.
The flyovers are expected to
be completed by the year-end,
and, at least initially, will
be toll-free. Once ready, the
27.7-km expressway (with 9.7
km falling in New Delhi and
18 km in Haryana) would be a
red-light free zone, cutting
down travel time between Dhaula
Kuan and Haldiram's Resort to
20 minutes.
Beginning from the point where
Rao Tula Ram Marg meets NH-8,
the Expressway will culminate
at a point near Haldiram's Resort
on the Delhi-Jaipur national
highway. Work on the project
is in top gear and flyovers
at Rajokri, Udyog Vihar, IFFCO
Chowk and Rajeev Chowk will
be operational by the end of
the year, says S.P.S. Bakshi,
chief general manager of National
Highways Authority of India
(NHAI). No toll tax would initially
be charged. Normally, toll tax
is charged once the entire expressway
is made functional.
